“Dean contacted me yesterday. He and Padma have located the site where we believe the Horcrux rests,” I say quietly, running a finger across the gentle curves carved in granite.

“I have assured Mother and Father that we are sufficiently prepared. You know how Mother frets so…”

…U…

I shake my head slowly, recalling our dinners at Hampstead Heath with my parents and how Mother would fuss over her.

…R…

“Master Kimijiwa believes that I am ready.” My hand comes to rest on the last letter of her name. “And I believe that I am as well. Training has been helpful these difficult months...” I clear my throat quietly and look away, willing myself to maintain my composure.

…A…

“Dear Laura, I miss you,” I whisper, letting my hand drop to the cool grass that now covers her.

The sun is still up although it is fast fading away. The many colours on the horizon just above the skyline of the Heath fascinate Gwen and Max as they both quietly drink their cocoa.

After a very successful April Bank Holiday Monday when Mother, Father and I visited Gwen, Max and in my case, Sebastian, this was followed by two more visits that will go into the Macmillan Pensieve Diaries and kept for posterity.

Kingsley Shacklebolt is one of the “Few Good Wizards” at the Ministry. When I approached him to request that I work Saturday and Sunday temporarily so that I could have Mondays and Fridays off instead because of a “family crisis,” not only did he refrain from asking the details of this crisis but said that the Auror Department need more wizards and witches on duty over the weekend. So, as he puts it, the Ministry “owes me one.”

Healer Davenport, Father, Mother and I Apparate in front of Phoenix House. Hoban opens the door and leads us to Susan's Office. Mother and I enter and crouch low to receive Max and Gwen into our arms. After hugs are given and received, Gwen and Max, to Mother's great delight, put their small hands on either side of her.

I am sifting through documents and reports that I have magically copied and charmed so that only I could read their contents when an owl I recognise to be one from St. Mungo's landed. I take the owlpost, paying this rather noble owl for Its service and watch It disappear into the horizon.

I open the "pink" parchment and read Justin's letter written in "crayon".

It is 10.41 precisely on a cold British morning. I am at the Ministry trying very hard to concentrate on my Auror duties but there are three things that are particularly bothering me and I am failing miserably: Harry's suspension from duties pending investigation, Luna's owl post I got first thing this morning and worry for my "brothers" Justin, Ron and Dean.

“Justin.” I intone softly.

This has been a surreal week indeed. I witness you and Ron envelope in green light. I then sent a multi-directional flare to confuse those Death Eaters who did this to you. Raise the alarm at the Ministry. Return to the Mill where it all happened. Go through a debriefing and complete the necessary forms and reports on autopilot. Share Ron and your family and friends’ grief in the shadows, and finally Apparating home completely drained

Merlin! I feel so helpless and numb. I pull myself together. There will be time to reflect and feel. But, this is certainly not the time for proper reflection. I need to get help. Before I Apparate to the Ministry to raise the alarm, I sent off a muti-directional flare to scare off the Death Eaters into inaction in case there are more captives inside the building.

"Master Ernie, sir, excuse me, but there’s something that requires your attention,” says the butler, who seems to have materialized out of nowhere, is strolling toward us.

Dean tells me that he thinks he can probably recognize a training room when I see one and that he'll be fine finding it on his own. I excuse myself and tell Dean that I will meet him at the training room.

Hampstead, Sunday, 22nd January. Today I enter my Pensieve in the calmness and privacy of my quarters firstly, to relive a most eventful week and secondly, to see if there is anything I missed.

It is supper time. Our fireplace suddenly burst into flames and Kingsley called out:

“Macmillan! Get yourself in here now. Briefing room. Werewolves sited. Alnwick, Northumbria.”

From midnight, the 24th December right through to New Year’s Day, mother, father and I entertained relations, close friends and acquaintances, Muggle style. Every year, father and I perform a spell around the Macmillan household so that every witch and wizard is seen as a Muggle. We had the usual array of wines, foods, desserts and presents complete with streamers, party hats, fireworks and music!

The note should read: `Dear Laura, thank you for a most enchanting evening. I have never had such a delightful dinner as I did with your most charming and enjoyable company. I hope that we will be able to explore historic Rochester soon,’ Ernie. Make it door- to-door special delivery to:
